il Messaggero Documentary

"il Messaggero" (The Messenger) tells the story of an Italian man from a small village in Calabria and his mission to bring messages of hope and joy to the United States as an immigrant in 1966. In doing so, he unknowingly immortalizes a generation of Italians through rare audio recordings and more than 50 years later we see its impact on the next generation living in the U.S. 

Famed Hollywood directing duo, the Russo Brothers (Marvel films) selected "il Messaggero" as one of eight documentary ideas from around the world to fund and feature as part of their yearly film forum.  The Russo Brothers Italian American Film Forum is an initiative to support films depicting and exploring the Italian American experience. The film is also supported by the National Italian American Foundation, The Italian Sons and Daughters of America, and several individual funders. The documentary has since appeared in film festivals in the U.S. and Italy, and has captured awards including the "People's Choice" award at the Ocean City, MD Film Festival. It had its broadcast premiere October 1, 2022 on PBS in Pittsburgh.

Pete L Ferraro is a ten-time Emmy award-winning Writer/Producer/Director and first generation American whose parents immigrated from Italy.  Ferraro has been in the television and marketing industry for 32 years and has worked in markets including Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Harrisburg, and Cincinnati.  This is his first feature length documentary.
